Mp3 Downloads and Digital Music

First I'd like to wish everyone who reads this a Happy New Year! I started out last year with the Idea of puting out a Cd and selling it on the internet. So I started out searching for sites that might do this. I was a member of "Taxi" (wich is an independant A&R company that forwards your music to Publishers and Record Co.'s looking for songs) and remembered seeing some info on a site Called Cd Baby. I looked into it and went to the site and found hundreds of Independant Songwriters, Bands and Artists selling there Cd's there. At first I thought, this might cost a lot a money, but as I looked into it was actually pretty darn reasonable, $35 to sign up. This got me a month on the "New Artist" page under the Genre's of Music that I picked. It got me my own web page where I could post a link to my sight, Showcase my music on that page, had a place for comments from fans, a place where I could write notes to people who visit my page. I was Blown away! All this for $35 bucks! It gets better though. They were just starting out a new thing for their members which had to do with digitally Licensing your Songs off your Cd. This is where you can set it up so that people can Download Single Song Downloads of your music! There are sites that their licensed with such as Itunes and MusicNet to name just a couple. You also get a barcode to put on the back of your Cd so you can sell them at your local music store. I told myself, this is unbeleivable! So I signed up and haven't looked back yet. Once you get set-up and they send your music to all the online outlets and it takes a little while, but, before you know it you have a lot of sites carrying your downloads. Check out MedloSongs.Com and take a cruise around the site. If your a Musician and want to sell your Cd's online,or just a Music Lover, I have links to a ton of Independant Musician Sites, I also have some great Educational software and other Software you can Download from MedloSongs.Com, Oh yeah and don't forget to visit Cd Baby. Until next time, Dave Medlo

I'm Sleepin' In

Have you ever had one of those weeks at work that when someone comes through the front door and you ask them- "Can you hold please"- and when you get home from work your answering the phone as if you were at work? That's what this song is all about. Just picture yourself out on Friday night maybe playing a game of pool or having a few drinks(maybe one too many) and you go home that night glad that it's the weekend and you know you have it off. All the sudden it's the morning time and your alarm goes off, you jump out of bed because you think your late to work---- you put your clothes on and then--- right before you hit the door you realize--- "Wait a minute, it's Saturday"--- and the relief that just overwhelms your body is a total natural high in itself! Yes--- no f--n work today!! Back to bed!! Then 3 hours later the phone rings and it's your Boss asking you to come in to work!! That's what we have answering machines for Right! Wrong? Right? You struggle with your conscience back and forth and finnally you tell yourself--- nah--- I'm Sleepin' In! You can check the song out at The Medlo's and purchase single song downloads from "The Medlo's Sonic Pictures" here MedloSongs.Com

"The Medlo's Sonic Picture" Song Description: Torn From The Hand

"Torn From The Hand" is about a man who has worked all his life as a independant steel worker who owned his own business. He never wasable to put aside a lot of money for his retirement and figured thatsocial security would help make up for what he couldn't save up. Well it turns out that they changed the retirement age to 72 years of age and he was 68. He had to work 4 more years to get his retirement. This put a strain on him since he should have been retired already at 68. He finallygets his check and notices it's not for very much money. Having developed some heart problems over those last 4 years, he stresses out and drops dead. Leaving his wife behind with no money, who has to be supported by her children. Just think how much money people would have if we didn't have to pay into social security! It would be all yours and no politicians could get their greedy little paws on it! Social security along with Income tax and Welfare was invented to keep hard working people in dept to support the politicians high spending habits. To keep the poor and the minorities downand tell them their gona do this and that for them, just so they can get the votes to keep them in power! Now, this probably isn't all true (haa) but it sure seems that way sometimes. Ya know, I should write a Michael Moore type documentary about this so I can get booked at all the colledges like he does and charge $20,000 per speech, like he does, which comes out of the students tuition fund which is paid by all the students filthy, rich, ignorant, parents, and ---- wait, I couldn't, it wouldn't work, it-- it was a--hu--shu don'tread this to loud-- the--dd-- is Ted Kennedy close by? O.K. it was the Democrats that invented Social SecurityDamm, Shuu, we all know you can't have a conspiracy theory on the Democrats, I hear you'll get in big trouble and Bruce Springsteen will come to your house and Kick your Ass! AA hell, yu know this sucks that Michael Moore has this whole conspiracy market cornered, all the Bush Haters have jumped on the Republican George Bush conspiracy Stuff, and have made some good profit, of course with the exception of Rush who would try to convince you that Republican Conservatives can do no Wrong! shuu--what was that -- I'm gona stop saying anything because Bill Gates of Microsoft is probably recording everything I say here and could turn it into the CIA and one of those Planes that they were showing on 60 minutes could land in my backyard and I could be taken away as an enemy Computer Blogger Combatant! Thanks for reading this far. You can check out "Torn From The Hand" at MedloSongs.Comand on Cd Baby. I am an American and refuse to lable myself as any ideology or partisan to any party. I call it how I see it. I'm Gratefull to have the Freedom to do so!

"The Medlos Sonic Pictures"Song Descriptions:Silvia Lake

Silvia Lake is a story about a camping trip with me and two of my old time camping buddies Chris and Eric. Chris and I drove up the night before and camped at the beginning of the trail head where we waited for Eric to arrive the next morning.

We decided to do something crazy the next day and carry a case of beer up this trail which was about five miles into the Wilderness. It wasn't too bad considering all of us took turns carrying this suitcase.

The name of the lake is actually "Lake Silvia" and the story I wrote about it is actually fiction. I don't really know where they got the name "Lake Silvia." It's a really beautiful lake surrounded by rocks on one side and trees on the other.

Well, the first night we got to drinking that case of beer and hiked up to this rock which over looked the lake. We named it tablerock because it was flat and you could sit on it. We also happened to have a bottle of Tequila with us and started in on that. Now this is where the howlin' at the moon part of the song came in. Their was moss on the side of the rocks on the lake that you could lay down on. It was like carpeting in your house, or atleast that's what it seamed like at the time.

It was a fire hazard to have fires up there so we had to play cards in the tent. That's when Eric pulled out some Wacky Tobacci and we proceeded to Hot Box his Tent. When I finally went to bed in my tent I was in pretty good shape. It was getting windy out and I started thinking about this movie I saw where these colledge kids were doing a documentary and they were in the woods of Maryland and all these scary bad things were happening to them. I was thinking about this part where the girl's in her tent and she's just scared to death because of all these strange sounds she was hearing. That's the part of the song where the words go "Late at nighttime that tent, heard nothin' new but the crazy old wind." That's when I stepped out of my tent defying the fact that I was too smashed to be scared and looked out over Lake Silvia and saw the "Moon shining as bright as lights on a Car" right on the Lake! Of course there was only "one" moon but at the time I was seeing "Two" moons shining off the Water!

That's when I decided to write a song about this beautiful place. Of course I don't mention in the song that yours Truly had to leave a day earlier and was elected to carry all the smelly beer cans out on his back along with a few empty smoked oyster cans to boot. Bear Bait I tell yah! That's what I was. I heard a few thing moving in the bushes on the way back, I think it was just a mountain lion or something and probably scared it off with all the noise!

So there you have it, the true story behind the Song Silvia Lake. You can find Silvia Lake and all the other songs from "The Medlo's Sonic Pictures" at MedloSongs.Com and you can also find it at CdBaby.Com Thanks for Visiting Medlo Songs Blogger and Buying "The Medlo's Sonic Pictures.

"The Medlo's Sonic Pictures" Song Descriptions: Forgotten Heroes

Have you ever listened to a song that had a certain meaning to you only to find out from a Dj on the radio that it meant something totally different from what you thought? I have! That's why I'm writing out some Song Descriptions here just in case you don't understand my words that I'm singing on this album "The Medlo's Sonic Pictures" found on medlosongs.com. Forgotten Heroes is about just that "Forgotten Heroes". While most of us go along with our lives every day in freedom, we take for granted the sacrafice of the people in our military that have fought for freedom in our country and abroad. It seems to me that the wounded get the shaft most of the time, not only mentally but physically to. It's been this way through out history anywhere in the world, the wounded always pay the biggest sacrafice, even more so than the people who have paid the ultimate price of death. All the proceeds from this song will go towards the wounded veterans in our military. I would also like to note that there are people in our Country who view the US as the Big Bad Wolf and the "New Roman Empire" which needs to Fall Again so we can all become hard core Socialists that rely on one Big Group of Elites to Support Us. Sorry, that's not why the European Tribes traveled the seas to get here. How about the"White Man" taking over the Indians land and now we need to pay reporations. Well what about all the Indian tribes that wiped out other Rival Indian tribes and took there land and killed there women and children and had slaves! Should they have to pay reporations too? Or how about the Italian Americans and German Americans who were put into internment camps during WW2, should they get reporations? The Japanese Americans did! We might as well hand over the whole country to the African Americans, right! The point I'm trying to say here is that we're all Americans and what truly makes our country great is that we have a little bit of every Nationality and Culture in the World here. True Independance is Relying on Yourself for your Happiness and not Someone Else or a Group of People to tell you what to do. Our strength is that we have the Freedom to Disagree! Try going to Saudi Arabia and be a woman and speak your mind! Sorry your DEAD! How about Iran, see how far you make it wearing your favorite bikini to the Beach! Sorry your DEAD! We have it soo good here. We need Wack-Job Liberals and Wack-Job Conservatives that's what keeps Us Inline! You know, Us Normal People! We need to Question Authority its our right. Try to do that in North Korea! Sorry your DEAD! We all need to be Americans and Appreciate all our Different Cultures that has made this Great Country, and most of all, Remember our Forgotten Heroes. Entertainers vs Songwriters vs Big Record Companies

If you asked me when I was 18 what I wanted to be when I got older, I would have told you a Famous Musician. As the years went on my goals changed from this dream of being Famous Musician to "how am I going to feed myself this week?", "where am I getting the money to pay for this apartment I’m sharing? Pretty soon you find yourself playing top 40 and have a day-job on the side, you start feeling like a Music Prostitute for hire and it gets old. What I realized here is that there’s a difference between Songwriter-Artist Musicians and people who just Entertain. An Entertainer will be happy just doing other peoples songs and cracking jokes and the whole Lounge deal in Vegas. A Songwriter-Artist Musician is someone who Entertains by being Themselves and Creating their Own Music that they can Share with Everyone, even if not everyone likes your music, there’s always someone that will appreciate what you are doing. These days we have certain types of music played over and over again on the radio stations. They only play artists from the big guys, because the big guys have the bucks to advertise and the little artists like me don’t. That’s all changing, with the Internet. Just as blogging has brought more diversity to the information age, Online Independant Music Stores and Internet Radio are plugging away at getting the small guy heard. If you would like to check out some bands or artists that you have never heard before, go to http://www.cdbaby.com/ and visit my site at http://www.medlosongs.com/ and check out The Medlo’s Sonic Pictures! I also have a Demo Service, Artist and Band link page, equipment page that you can advertise your equipment "For Sale" and other valuable resources for Independant Musicians Like Myself.

Real Musicians Versus Computer Musicians

When I was about fifteen years old, I wanted to do some Multi track Recording. Back then in the 70's this was pretty much impossible unless you went to a studio or had the money to buy a multi-track recorder. So I would take two portable tape recorders, record a part on the first recorder, then record myself playing along with the first recorder and do that over and over until I had what I wanted. I thought that was the coolest thing. These days all you have to know how to do is have a computer and buy some software and you can come up with some top notch sounding music. Now for guys like me who play a lot of different instruments, we look at it as cheating. Now, I don't have anything against people who are talented musicians who really play and program some Drums and Bass and actually put the parts down on the keyboards. I'm talking about people who are doing movie scores that can't play or sing a lick of music. Is this crowding the market for True Musicians? Is this taking away from people who are truly talented? Visit my site MedloSongs.Com or blog back and let me know your thoughts.
